PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
A daring daylight robbery in Howrah’s Ramrajatala area has sparked panic after two miscreants allegedly posed as police officers and looted a man of four diamond-studded gold rings and a gold chain. The accused reportedly handed the victim a paper packet filled with stones before fleeing the spot. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Jagacha Police Station.
According to available information, the victim, identified as Bholanath Chattopadhyay, was riding his motorcycle when he was intercepted by a man on another bike. Shortly thereafter, a second individual arrived and claimed to be a police officer. The duo allegedly showed a fake identity card and cited security concerns to justify conducting a search.
Police said the fraudsters intimidated the victim and asked him to remove the jewellery he was wearing. Trusting their claims, he handed over four diamond-studded gold rings and a gold chain. The accused then gave him a paper-wrapped packet, instructing him to open it later, and quickly left the scene.
After travelling some distance, Bholanath grew suspicious and opened the packet, only to find pieces of stone instead of his valuables. Realising he had been duped, he informed the police about the incident.
Jagacha Police Station has registered a case against unknown persons based on the victim’s complaint. Investigators have begun examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the area to identify the suspects and trace the motorcycle used in the crime. The incident has triggered concern among residents, who have questioned public safety and patrolling in the locality.
